If you’re new to sewing, then these animals are just right for you. Beginners often complain about complex 3D designs and hard to read patterns. I often hear beginners and those think of picking up sewing complain about a lack of easy patterns. It is only natural for beginners to not want to undertake serious projects like sewing an entire dress. For that reason, I am sharing these simple animal designs.
The reason these projects are easy is they are made from felt, which is a quite forgiving material. Even if you make mistakes cutting a piece of felt, you can later fix them to fit your pattern. Felt edges do not get frizzy like regular fabric when you cut it and the edges do not unravel. That felt is cheaper than cotton textiles also makes it cheaper to experiment.
The 2D designs of these animals make them easier to sew by hand or using a sewing machine. The patterns, which only consist of two pieces — one back and one front — are very easy to understand and follow. You can draw whichever animal you want on a piece of paper, use it as a pattern to cut your felt and stitch the pieces together. You can then add the details.
If you think you are not experienced enough to embellish the animals using a needle and fabric, then you can use some Elmer’s glue to do the job.
If you want to create exact replicas of the animals that I have shared in this blog post, you can visit this Etsy store to buy the patterns.
