Ceramic bowls usually have static patterns. These ceramic bowls are different. Produced by Jim Le Fevre, Mike Paterson and Al Johnstone (RAMP ceramics), this film was commisioned by Crafts Council in order to protect and promote crafts in Britain.
The project titled “Real to Reel”, aims to have objects displayed as a work of art when they are static, yet have them turn into an animation when spun on a pottery wheel.
By combining digital technology with ceramics, Jim Le Fevre has reinterpreted the Zoetrope, one of the first animaton techniques from the 1930s. By readjusting the shutter speed, Le Fevre was able to acquire animated images on ceramic bowls.
