Jeweler and designer Ola Skekthman creates rings inspired by famous cities from around the world.
Skekhtman learned jewelry design at a jewelry school he attended in St Petersburg in 2011. As a student, she crafted jewelry manually, but after moving to the United States, she attended a course on 3D mold techniques and refined his skills. Thanks to those techniques, Skekhtman says she can turn anything he can think of into an accessory, which gave her great freedom.
Skehtman says she always wanted to craft a ring depicting a line of buildings, a sort of home that she could put on her finger. She says she finally had the chance to craft that ring at jewelry school which she gifted to a friend. Skehtman says a door opened after crafting that ring and she started to dream about rings with illustrious buildings on them.
In 2015, she went ahead with a design she had in mind, created a ring with a Paris cityscape and placed it on her Etsy store. The ring was instantly sold and new orders started pouring in. Skethman later added Amsterdam and New York to her collection, which now features Berlin, London, Washington DC, Charleston, Boston, Hong Kong and Edinburgh. The rings can be coated with bronze, silver or gold, with prices depending on the material. Some of her customers use his rings as wedding bands, Skethman says.
